Making: friends in different parts of the world is something that I’m going to make an effort to do more. My focus has always been to see and experience different things but never really to forge friendships with amazing people. But that’s definitely changed.

Eating: Gelato from Osteria on Sundays is something I’ve officially turned into a ritual. There’s nothing like some creamy caramel icecream on a homemade cone. Nom.

Drinking: breakfast smoothie bowls is something I’ve been trying out lately. I’ve made it a couple of times and so far have loved that it’s filling but also really pretty to look at. Also, forgive me if smoothies are actually eaten and drunk. I mean, I still don’t get why you “eat” soup and yet that’s what they say so, go figure.

Reading: All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. Actually I finished it last night and I’ve got to say, it was a pretty epic read (regardless of the fact that it’s a young adult book) and I’d definitely recommend it. And would you believe I finished the book in just a week? A week, you guys! That’s the first time I’ve read a book that fast in years. It always takes me about a month – two weeks if I’m pushing myself – so I’m happy that I reached for my book more instead of tv shows this past week. Anyway, the book I’ve now moved onto is Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris.

Wanting: to cross paths with more beautiful, kind and gentle souls as I did from my recent trip to Club Med, Mauritius. Met some really cool people who work there that I’d consider friends now. It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip.

Playing: Heads Up! Have you downloaded that app yet? No? Ok, listen to me my friend, just step away from your laptop for a sec and if you’re on your phone, just take a minute to go to your app Store and download it. Seriously, just go now. I’ll still be here when you get back but we just can’t have you go another minute without that app on your phone. It was made by one of the loveliest humans on this earth, Ellen DeGeneres, and has left me in complete stitches after playing it with friends and strangers alike. So. Damn. Good.

Wasting: no time on negative energy, negative people, negative anything!

Creating: Lists of books I’d like to read this year and songs I’d like to listen to. I really want to try and get at least 20 books under my belt before the year ends and so far I don’t think I’ve even hit 5. So much to read, so little time.

Wishing: I could actually manage to have long nails without them breaking. I’m seriously one of the clumsiest people out there and I think I may have to embrace the fact that long nails are not really meant for me.

Enjoying: Libib. It’s an app meant for avid readers and nerds and people who like organizing so if you fit all three traits, get ready to be ah-mayzed. It literally categorizes all your books (perfect if you lend books out and never remember who/when you gave it out to) and you can rate them, list which ones you’ve read and which you’re yet to devour… it’s just perfect. You can thank me later.

Loving: Cadbury’s White Chocolate with Biscuit. Yuuuuummy. I don’t remember the last time I tried a different chocolate (I’m a KitKat kind of girl) and so this one took me by surprise with its beautiful, creamy texture and crunchy bits. You should definitely try it if you’re into white chocolate!

Hoping: to see snow for the very first time soon. Man, that would be so amazing!

Marvelling: at Game of Thrones’ last episode. WHAT WAS THAT???? I’ve got to admit though, I’m one of those crap GoT fans who sometimes (read: always) forgets characters’ names and their back stories and has to ask people what’s happening. So what I’m doing now is watching it from the very beginning and making sure my fiancé is around to explain anything that isn’t too clear. Helps that he’s watched every YouTube video on the characters so he knows everything about everything about everything about everyth…

Smelling: lots of lattes. Currently sitting at the Java at the airport waiting for my flight to Lamu! Can’t wait to be back.

Wearing: some new jeans that I got at Mr. Price for KES500! Can you believe it? They’ve got a sale on now and I even grabbed a pair for my sister, Amani, so if you can, do check it out.

Following: Game of Thrones (from the beginning, as I said).

Noticing: that more and more people are going vegan in the world. Or is it just me??

Knowing: that Kanye is the only person that can pull a Kanye and get away with it for being Kanye. Have you seen his Famous video? The fact that he hasn’t been sued over and over again is so shocking to me. Oh, Kanye.

Feeling: all sorts of things knowing that Amani is officially a teen! Can you believe that? 13. Thiiirrteeen. Wow. Her birthday was last week and because I wasn’t around, we spent Saturday doing things that teens like to do. 🙂

Bookmarking: more videos about clean eating. Not that I want to be on a diet, but I just want to fill my body with healthier options when I can.

Opening: up to the idea that braids may not be that bad after all. I finally found someone who braided my hair and didn’t pull or tug and I’ve actually enjoyed the experience of it all! Last time I had braids on was about two years ago and I may put them on again later this year.

Giggling: at this cute video of a dad and his little baby. So adorable!

Feeling: grateful that I’ve gotten the chance to witness such incredible, jaw-dropping sunsets and sunrise from different parts of this country and this world. And I pray I get to see hundreds more!

Thank you so much for reading and as always,

Love and Love!

Here I come with my long ass comments, lol.
Ugh I live for Gelato! So creamy and yum, love it. I’ve been getting into smoothies so much lately, I usually drink it out of my bottle (I like it quick and on the go) although I have seen really cool looking pictures of smoothie bowls online so I may just try that. I just finished classes so its summer for me right now, I’m currently reading Ice Cream Girls by Dorothy Koomson, so far its been really good, I just started it. Heads up is my favourite game EVER! Anytime my friends and I are meeting up in someones place we play it, it gets so intense and hilarious too!! Best game ever for sure. Yes to no negative energy in our space, a big no no. Ain’t nobody got time for that. About Kanye West, ugh I don’t even know what to say, lol. I’ve also noticed tons of people going vegan too, a lot of youtubers I follow are now vegan, props to them! I could never do that. Braids are my fave, sad I’m taking mine out soon, thinking of doing cornrows maybe. Loving the braids on you by the way. I honestly dislike sitting down for long hours but I think in order to avoid that I’ll start doing crochet braids or twists, same look but less sitting which is awesome. Like always, awesome post Sharon and also great pictures (thumbs up for Susan). Safe flight to Lamu (just saw your tweet about going there).

    Lots of love and sunshine

    • Hahaha…long yes but really nice…at this rate we’ll be reading This is Lynda alongside This_is_ess…hahaha ???

And I’m glad you’re enjoying the app 🙂

How many books are you hoping to go through this year?

      • Stella Kimani

Am hoping to read at least 10 books by the end of the year. It doesn’t help when most of the books am reading are 1000 pages plus, but am hanging in there. ?

Hello Shas, as always I enjoy reading your stock take posts.
Can I just acknowledge the photography in this post. The black and white finish adds that vintage feel. Love it

  • I have been craving ice cream for a couple of weeks now! Also, where in the world is that Cadbury’s chocolate?? I don’t think that’s in Nigeria yet because I would die for that right about now lol!

    • Oh really? Bummer. You can find it in the local supermarkets here…

  • Rahmo

I haven’t watched any games of throne not even one YouTube review! but I will now definetly give it a try and download heads up if only to play the game to ease the times social gatherings start to get a little awkward and Lamu!!!!!!!! Capital(Capital lifestyle?) I think takes the cup for best employer, yaani our 2 cents is turning into some envy inducing affair!(in a good way).Do reveal what do teens like to do 😀 :-D.I love love this post because of the many to try things, thanks.

  • You sound like a real person ??. …In a good way…and you look real…like you’re happy and living and am really happy for you…because you sound like you’re finally breathing/living because you shared something that’s going on in your life without really caring…and that’s beautiful ??.

  • You should know that the Giggling cute video of dad and little baby redirects to Kanyes Famous video ijs

  • A Scoop Of My Delights

    Hi Sharon,

    Love your post ❣
All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven is an epic book.
Took me a weekend so I truly understand your speed.

For A Recommendation Book, I would recommend ‘What is the What’ by Dave Eggers ?
One of my Best Reads this year ?

Thank you for sharing information on the Libib app too.

Whenever you are free and chilling glamorously as you always do, you can have a sneak peek on this blog:

    Cheers Darl.

  • Looking great the head wrap and your top really go well together. love the prints.

  • Osteria is so the truth!

  • Sue

Re: Game of Thrones–someone told me reading blogs about the show also helps. Book recommendation: Under the Udala trees by Chinelo Okparanta, read this last year and enjoyed it.
This is random, but do you listen to podcasts? I was hanging out with a friend who is really into them. Great stuff out there…but in my search for african podcasts not that many selections. Are there any Kenyan podcasts? If not there needs to be. Just brought this up since you are in radio….:)

    • Sheila Bett

I have one you can check out.. last post a while ago … check it out! Back to the boardroom then the ice will thaw bringing it back 🙂

  • And sending love right back to you Sheilah!

  • Thanks for reading!!

  • Jacquie Kariuki

All the Bright Places gutted me. I sense you’re one of those adults wary of YA…What most people don’t know is that the YA book section has some of the most beautiful, nuanced (not to mention unpretentious) stories out there. Some of my all time favourites are: The book Thief by Markus Zusak (his books are an autobuy for me), On Jellicoe Road + Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta (another autobuy), Aristotle & Dante discover the secrets of the Universe-Benjamin Alire Saenz (an autobuy), Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, The Graveyard book by Neil Gaiman (another autobuy author), Tigerlily by Jodi Lynn Anderson…I’ll stop now 🙂

PS: I’m a GOT fan (of both the books & the show) so you can imagine your confession has me all bug-eyed & shouting Whaaaa?!

For the long wait, do sample Outlander, Peaky Blinders & The Americans; brilliant, addictive dramas that I normally recommend to GOT fans.

    • Sheila Bett

You seem like such a cool human being…I need to screenshot this comment/write the titles down so I can look for these books 🙂

  • Karwitha Mugambi

I also had to watch GoT from the very beginning, I forgot character back stories.

  • Mary

you should start a blog, you have a way with words

  • raquel mureithi

  • zawadi
