At the beginning of this new decade, we all set our goals and intentions for the year 2020. We had vision board parties where we declared personal goals to our friends.

The year 2020, however, has not started the way we all anticipated. Coronavirus happened and everything at the moment is at a standstill.

That being said, it’s not the end of the world. We will have our lives back and we are still trusting that 2020 is actually our year. It’s not cancelled yet.

There are measures in place by governments all over the world to reduce the spread of the pandemic.

In the past few weeks, we’ve had to work from home as we maintain a high standard level of hygiene. Washing our hands regularly and building our immune system has been a top priority.

We are all processing the changes and it’s okay to feel overwhelmed, scared and confused. Remember you are not alone in this and that this too will pass.

In this season, prioritizing your mental health is important. We want to share a few ideas on how to take care of your mental health while social distancing.

Look For Positive Distractions

Consuming information on the pandemic is important but so is your mental health.

Tune out social media. Put your phone down and be present at your home.

Look for a distraction that can keep you busy at your home. Read a book, you can do that online or even re-read one that you have at home. Start baking or learn how to prepare a new dish with what you have in the house. Catch up on an interesting show or binge-watch your favourite YouTube videos.

You can also learn an online skill that will help you make money now or will be useful later.

Practice Giving

When everyone is panic buying and caring for their own, be generous. There is no need to panic buy or hoard just for our neighbours to go without basic necessities.

This is the perfect time to practice generosity. Think of your friends, your family and your neighbours.

Continue supporting local businesses by buying online. You can also give to the old while maintaining social distance. Buy groceries and have it delivered to them. Look up organizations collecting money or food to help the underprivileged in the community and give.

Humanity is being tested and love and kindness is what keeps us together.

Giving helps you feel useful and putting a smile on someone’s face does more for you than for them.

Stay Active

Staying in your pyjamas with snacks, scrolling down your phone while a show is running on your TV is great. But, don’t overdo it.

Remember those body goals you had at the beginning of 2020? Now is the time to start implementing. Come up with a work-out schedule to keep your body active. Look out for the online work out challenges and be a part of it.

Your favourite fitness coaches are also offering free workout classes online.

Make time to practice self-care too. Meditate, have a long shower, dance, breathe, and make time for devotion too.

Stay Working

If you have the go-ahead to work from home, it means you have to stay working.

It’s hard to maintain the same discipline as with a normal office but come up with a schedule that works. We can only watch as much, clean as much and lounge as much before we feel like we are losing our minds.

Do some work that makes you feel like your routine hasn’t changed much. We are also trying to stay paid as we self-isolate, so show your worth at work by being productive while at home.

Schedule Calls with Loved Ones

Everybody is feeling overwhelmed so check on your friends and your family members.

If you feel triggered by what is going on in the world, call someone who calms you and gives you good vibes. Someone who makes you laugh and in return call someone to make them laugh too.

Maintaining social distancing is important. It protects you and other people but take advantage of video calls to feel close to others.

We are all in this together. This means we understand what each one is going through so we love and support each other from a distance. We will conquer this virus together.
